Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When signs of an enemy retirement were reported, he at once went forward, though he was suffering from the effects of gas, and made a thorough reconnaissance of the brigade front under machine gun fire, and sent back valuable information. He showed great coolness and initiative.'
