Military Medal

'At HOOGE, FRANCE on 20th September, 1917, during the operations in GLENCORSE WOOD, Pte. MARTIN was much noted for his conduct throughout. He carried important messages through heavy artillery fire with courageous energy. When water was short he volunteered to go back for it through a heavy barrage. This keenness and reliability set a fine example to his comrades.'
