Military Medal 'For conspicuous bravery at HARBONNIERES, East of VILLERS-BRETONNEUX on 9th August 1918. When the advance of the leading Company of the attacking Battalion was held up by machine gun fire he volunteered to go forward and clear the way with rifle grenades. This he did and by skilful use of ground and cover he managed to blow out one machine gun and thus materially aided the progress of the advance. His gallant conduct throughout the day was a splendid example to his comrades.'
