Medals |
Military Medal 'For courage and devotion to duty forward of STRAZEELE on 17th April, 1918, Corporal MARTIN was in charge of a Vickers Machine Gun when the enemy put down a heavy artillery barrage on our positions, under cover of which he advanced to the attack from near MERRIS. He immediately got his gun into action and though the No. 2 of his team was killed and he was left with only recently joined Infantrymen for his crew, he so inspired them by his courage that the gun was kept working and was able to inflict many casualties on the enemy and finally broke up the attack. His determination and courage under fire were a splendid example to his men and contributed in no small way to the holding of the position.'
