Admitted to 12th Australian Field Ambulance, 5 November 1916 (scabies); transferred same day to 1st New Zealand Casualty Clearing Station; to 39th Casualty Clearing Station, 6 November 1916; to 1st New Zealand Stationary Hospital, Amiens, 6 November 1916; to 6th General Hospital, Rouen, 28 November 1916; to No 3 Convalescent Depot, Rouen, 28 November 1916; discharged to Base Depot, Etaples, 1 December 1916.

Admitted to 20th General Hospital, Camiers, 3 January 1917 (scabies); discharged to Base Depot, 6 January 1917; rejoined unit, in the field, 18 January 1917.

Admitted to 5th Australian Field Ambulance, 28 March 1917 (quinsey); transferred to 8th Australian Field Ambulance, 29 March 1917; rejoined unit, 6 April 1917.

Found guilty, 19 May 1917, of (1) drunk on line of march; (2) leaving ranks on line of march without permission; (3) insolent conduct to an officer: awarded 28 days' Field Punishment No 2.

Wounded in action, 5 April 1918 (shrapnel wound, face), and admitted to 13th Australian Field Ambulance, and thence to Casualty Clearing Station; transferred to 10th Canadian Stationary Hospital, 6 April 1918; discharged to No 7 Convalescent Depot, Calais, 12 April 1918; rejoined unit, in the field, 7 June 1918.

Wounded in action (second occasion), 10 July 1918 (gun shot wound, right leg), admitted to 4th Australian Field Ambulance, and transferred same day to 47th Casualty Clearing Station; to Ambulance Train No 6, 11 July 1918, and admitted to 6th General Hospital, Rouen, 12 July 1918. transferred to England, 27 July 1918, and admitted to 1st Birmingham War Hospital, Rednal, 28 July 1918. Transferred to 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 4 October 1918; to 2nd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Southall, 8 November 1918; discharged on furlough, 18 February 12919, to report to 2nd AAH, 4 March 1919.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Marathon', 19 April 1919; disembarked Brisbane, 11 June 1919; discharged, Brisbane (medically unfit), 13 January 1920.
