He enlisted in Geelong, served 10 months as Ambulance Driver at Geelong Camp, and sailed for Front after 12 months work there. He served 8 months as Ambulance Driver with the 10th Field Ambulance in France at the end of which time he entered Queen's College, Oxford, where he qualified for Pilot.
