Distinguished Service Order 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He carried out a successful attack on an enemy position with great skill, although the plan of operations had to be altered at very short notice. Though blown up and severely shaken during the attack, he continued in command and consolidated the position, capturing ten machine guns and inflicting heavy casualties on the enemy. The success of the operations was largely due to his courage, determination, and devotion to duty.'
