Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For gallantry and initiative during the operations at Bellicourt on 29 September, 1918. Whilst employed with his company on the road behind the village, he noticed five of the enemy with a machine gun in a position some distance away. Acting on his own initiative, he took a private with him, and made prisoners of the enemy, whom he sent to the rear.'
