Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the operations near LE VERQUIER on the 18th September, 1918. When his platoon was opened up on the party from the copse. Corporal Massey quickly go his men into cover and leaving his platoon moved forward into the Copse and located the machine gun. Returning, he led a small party to the flank, and under cover of the platoon fire, successfully smothered this opposition, capturing a machine gun. Reorganising his platoon he led his men forward to the final objective. His courageous and determined conduct helped considerably to overcome the opposition in DEAN COPSE and set a very fine example to the members of his Company.'
