'During the attack East of MONT ST. QUENTIN, near PERONNE, on 2nd September 1918, this man was No. 2 of a Lewis Gun team. He with a comrade pushed on ahead of his platoon, in short rushes, firing the gun from the hip, and cleared the machine gun nests which were holding his platoon up, this enabling it to get on to its objective.'
