Military Medal 'Volunteering to drive a sap from GOODWINS POST near GUEUDECOURT through ground exposed to heavy sniping and grenade fire. He performed a great deal of the work himself, setting his men a splendid example of devotion to duty and of cheerfulness under adverse conditions. When completed, the work gave us command of one of the enemy's avenues of approach and a splendid view of one of his strong points and the trenches in the vicinity. 12th/14th November, 1916.'
