Military Medal 'On 1st September, 1918, at MONT ST. QUENTIN near PERONNE, his gun position was heavily shelled and subjected to heavy Minenwerfer fire. During this bombardment three of his crew of four men were wounded, the tripod blown up and put out of action, yet when the enemy counter attacked he bravely stuck to his gun in an exposed position and brought fire to bear on them, inflicting heavy losses. A party of the enemy succeeded in getting in a sap only 10 yards from his gun, but he bombed them out and fired on them as they retreated. His splendid work greatly assisted in breaking up the attack.'
