Embarked from Australia, 22 December 1914. Proceeded to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force at Gallipoli, 5 April 1915. Landed at Gallipoli, 25 April 1915. Withdrawn from Gallipoli, and disembarked at Alexandria, 3 January 1916.

Transferred to 4th Division Signal Company, 6 March 1916; taken on strength, 9 March 1916. Appointed Lance Corporal, 15 April 1916. Posted to School of Instruction, Zeitoun, 30 April 1916; rejoined unit from School of Instruction, 21 May 1916.

Embarked from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 2 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 8 June 1916. Reported for duty with unit, 21 June 1916. On leave to the United Kingdom, 5 December 1916; rejoined unit from leave, 15 December 1916. Promoted Temporary 2nd Corporal, 19 June 1917; promotion confirmed same day.

On leave to the United Kingdom, 30 October 1917. In hospital, sick, 14 November 1917-3 January 1918. Marched out to No. 1 Command Depot, Sutton Veny, Wiltshire, 11 January 1918; to Overseas Training Brigade, Longbridge Deverill, 15 January 1918.
