'During the attack on the Beaurevoir system, from the 3-5 October, 1918, he displayed conspicuous devotion to duty and gallantry under fire. He crawled to the advanced outposts in face of intense artillery and machine gun fire, established communication with battalion headquarters and thereby enabling dispositions of great tactical importance to be made.'
