Military Medal 'On 7th August, 1918, at HAMEL, the Battery was shelled with 5.9's. No. 1 pit was set on fire. Fitter Sergeant MAXWELL immediately went to the pit whilst shells were still falling and put out the fire, thus saving the gun and ammunition. On the 8th August, 1918, and while the Battery was in action on the 9th August, 1918, at HAMILTON WOOD, this N.C.O. was responsible for keeping the six guns in action under very adverse circumstances. His untiring energy was beyond praise. Fitter Sergeant MAXWELL, has shown on all occasions utter disregard for danger in the pursuance of his duties.'
