Military Medal 'At POZIERES, FRANCE, from 16th. to 22nd. August 1916, Private MAZENGARB was most conspicuous in his devotion to duty as a stretcher bearer under heavy fire. He was constantly carrying wounded between the regimental aid posts and Ambulance Dressing Station and on one occasion when his fellow bearer was killed by a shell, in POZIERES WOOD, and he himself blown up, he stood by his patient, and with the aid of another stretcher bearer removed the patient to the Dressing Station and, inspite of being severely shaken he continued without interval in his stretcher bearing duties under heavy fire. His coolness and courage under these difficult conditions was an inspiration to the other stretcher bearers. Where the face of the ground and trenches was blown up beyond recognition, he guided the bearers to several wounded.'
