Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during an attack on the HINDENBURG LINE north of BELLICOURT on 30th September, 1st October 1918. Observing that the unit immediately on his right was held up by heavy Machine Gun fire, this gallant soldier, who was in charge of a Lewis Gun team, advanced his gun section to a favourable position and engaged the enemy guns. So successful were his efforts that the crews of the guns were knocked out and the others so demoralised that the attacking company was able to continue its advance to the ultimate capture of the Machine Gun nest. It was due to this gallant soldier's initiative in giving fire co-operation and good leadership, that a very strong position was captured with a minimum of casualties.'
