Military Medal 'At VILLE SUR ANCRE, near ALBERT on the night 3rd/4th May, 1918, for conspicuous gallantry in action. This man was Scout Leader of a fighting patrol which had as its object the capture of an enemy post. On reaching a point about 50 yards from the post the patrol was discovered by the enemy, who opened heavy rifle and machine gun fire. Regardless of all danger, Private McCABE in company with his Officer rushed the post on the right flank in spite of heavy firing continuing. The patrol was successful in the capture of the enemy post, and it is considered that this was largely due to the dash and determination displayed by Private McCABE.'
