Military Medal 'On morning 14th May, 1918 during enemy attack on our lines near MORLANCOURT, south of Albert??? was No. 1 on a Lewis Gun. In the absence of his section commander he assumed command and led the section with dash and skill. By the heavy fire from his gun he greatly assisted in keeping the enemy down while our attacking party advanced. just as the objective was within reach he, unassisted, rushed his gun out to a flank, and by his movement practically made certain that no enemy would escape. Any who attempted to get back were promptly shot. He remained in the position with his gun and kept down enemy fire while the situation was being cleared up. His high spirits did much to encourage his men.'
