War service: Western Front Embarked Melbourne, 27 May 1915; disembarked Devonport, England, 18 July 1916. Found guilty, Larkhill, 1 August 1916, of being absent without leave from midnight, 31 July, to 9 pm, 1 August 1916: awarded 3 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeiture of a total of 3 days' pay. Proceeded overseas to France, 23 November 1916. Wounded in action, 27 January 1917 (gun shot wound, slight), and admitted to 9th Australian Field Ambulance; transferred to Divisional Rest Station, 29 January 1917; discharged to duty, 31 January 1917; rejoined Bn, in the field, 3 February 1917. Appointed Lance Corporal, 24 April 1917. Marched in to 3rd Division School, 24 April 1917; marched out to rejoin Bn, 29 April 1917. Appointed Temporary Corporal, 16 June 1917. Promoted Corporal, 31 August 1917. Transferred to 10th Training Bn, Durrington, England, 31 August 1917.
