War service: returned to duty, Overseas Base, Egypt, as Private, for failing to obey an order, 27 September 1915.

Taken on strength, Australian Stores Depot, Ghezireh, 28 June 1916.

Embarked Alexandria for England with Australian Depot Stores, 3 September 1916; marched into No 3 Camp, Parkhouse, 18 September 1916; to 4th Training Bn, Codford, 4 April 1917.

Proceeded overseas to France, 22 May 1917; taken on strength, 15th Bn, in the field, 12 June 1917.

Appointed Lance Corporal, 6 September 1917.

Wounded in action, 28 September 1917 (multiple gun shot wounds, shoulder and leg: severe), and admitted to 3rd Australian Field Ambulance; transferred to 17th Casualty Clearing Station, 29 September 1917, and thence to 11th Stationary Hospital, Rouen; to England, 14 October 1917, and admitted to 1st Southern General Hospital, 16 October 1917; discharged to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 6 November 1917. Marched into No 4 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 7 January 1918; marched into Overseas Training Brigade, Longbridge Deverill, 13 February 1918.

Proceeded overseas to France, 4 March 1918; rejoined Bn, in the field, 9 March 1918.

Wounded in action (second occasion), 8 June 1918 (gun shot wound, left arm, right thigh, penetrating abdomen), and admitted to 4th Australian Field Ambulance; transferred to 47th Casualty Clearing Station, 9 June 1918; died of wounds, 9 June 1918.
