War service: Egypt, Gallipoli Joined 6th Bn at Gallipoli, 21 August 1915. Admitted to hospital, 25 September 1915 (rheumatism); returned from hospital, 28 September 1915. Transferred to Machine Gun Section, Shrapnel Valley, 15 October 1915. Put on water fatigue because of injured right hand; did not use rifle. Admitted to hospital ship, Gallipoli, 10 November 1915 (febrile); transferred to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Heliopolis, 15 November 1916 (pyrexia). Marched into Australian Base, Ghezireh, from hospital, 10 December 1915. Found guilty, 24 December1915, of being drunk in town at 10 pm: awarded 5 days’ confined to barracks. Embarked Alexandria, 22 October 1916; disembarked England (date not recorded). . Marched into No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, from 2nd Training Bn, Durrington, 11 April 1917. Commenced return to Australia on board HT ‘Euripides’, 21 July 1917 (senility; old accident to right hand: caught between two trucks on the railway in 1902); discharged (medically unfit), Melbourne, 29 November 1917. Medals: 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal Medal stamps marked ‘Returned unclaimed’. Died, 25 November 1919, as a result of falling off a tram. |
