Distinguished Conduct Medal ' For conspicuous and gallantry and devotion to duty. This warranty officer was responsible for guiding two platoons through a thick fog on the first day of the attack, and got them to the right place by the time the fog lifted. The following day, when the advance continued, without the assistance of tanks, he swept aside all opposition by his determination, and it was mainly due to his action on the right flank of the company that the advance was successful'

On 8 August, 1918, in the early part of the advance during the fog, he was in charge of two platoons, ably assisting his company commander, and materially helping towards the success of the operations. At Harbonnieres, on 9 August he organized the advance of the right half company under heavy fire, and enabled it to proceed. At Peronne, on 2 September, 1918, by his coolness and good judgment under heavy fire, in assisting his company commander, many casualties were avoided.'
