Embarked Alexandria to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, Gallipoli, 8 June 1915; taken on strength, 5th Bn, Gallipoli, 17 June 1915.

Wounded in action, 21 August 1915 (gun shot wound, left leg and right hand), and admitted to 3rd Field Ambulance Divisional Collecting Station; transferred same day to No 1 Casualty Clearing Station; to 25th Casualty Clearing Station, Imbros, 22 August 1915; disembarked Alexandria, 30 August 1915, and admitted same day to 17th General Hospital (wounds: severe). Transferred to England, 27 October 1915, and admitted to 3rd London General Hospital, Wandsworth, 8 November 1915; discharged to duty, 7 December 1915, and marched into A&NZ Depot, Weymouth.

Commenced return to Australia from Portland on board HT 'Suevic', 11 March 1916; arrived Australia, 22 April 1916; discharged (medically unfit: wounded), Melbourne, 14 July 1916.
