War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front Joined 8th Bn, Gallipoli, 8 May 1915. Found guilty, 29 June 1915, of conduct prejudicial to good order and military discipline: awarded 7 days' Field Punishment No 2. Admitted to No 2 Field Ambulance, Camp Sarpi, 23 October 1915 (jaundice), and transferred same day to No 2 Canadian Stationary Hospital, Mudros; discharged to Base Details, 3 November 1915; rejoined Bn, 4 November 1915. Disembarked Alexandria, 7 January 1916 (general Gallipoli evacuation). Transferred to 60th Bn, and taken on strength, Tel el Kebir, 24 February 1916. Found guilty, Ferry Post, 5 April 1916, of being absent without leave from 2230, 2 April, until 1700, 3 April 1916: awarded 14 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited 2 days' pay. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 18 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 29 June 1916. Reported Missing, 19 July 1916.
