Allotted to 48th Bn and taken on strength, Tel-el-Kebir, 9 March 1916; allotted to 12th Battalion, Tel-el-Kebir, 24 May 1916.

Embarked Alexandria on HMT 'Franconia' and proceeded to join the British Expeditionary Force, 6 June 1916; disembarked Plymouth, 16 June 1916.

Found guilty at Rollestone, 19 June 1916, of being absent without leave, 6.30 am, 19 June, to 9.15 am, 19 June 1916: awarded 3 days' confinement to camp.

Proceeded to France, 10 September 1916; marched into 4th Australian Divisional Base Depot, Etaples, 11 September 1916.

To hospital ill, 13 September 1916; admitted to 26th General Hospital, Etaples, 14 September 1916. Embarked Calais on HS 'Stad Antwerpen' and proceeded to England for further treatment, 17 September 1916; admitted to 5th Northern General Hospital, Leicester, 18 September 1916; discharged to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 12 October 1916; moved out to 73rd Drafting Depot, Wareham, 2 November 1916; marched into No 3 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 29 March 1917; classified C.1, 1 April 1917.

Found guilty at Hurdcott, 9 April 1917, of neglecting to obey an order, 6 April 1917: awarded 1 day's confinement to camp; marched into No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 11 April 1917.

Commenced return to Australia on HT 'Militades', 4 May 1917; disembarked Adelaide from HT 'Runic', 2 July 1917. Discharged as being medically unfit for continued service, 1 August 1917.
