War service: Western Front Embarked Fremantle, 29 December 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 3 March 1917; marched into 12th Training Bn, Codford, 4 March 1917. Admitted to Group Clearing Hospital, Codford, 3 May 1917 (scabies); discharged from hospital, 14 May 1917. Found guilty, 19 April 1917, of (1) failing to appear at a place of rendezvous; (2) being absent without leave, 4-16 April 1917: awarded 21 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited 35 days' pay (£8-15-0). Proceeded overseas to France, 10 November 1917; taken on strength, 46th Bn, in the field, 10 July 1917. Proceeded on leave, 10 November 1917. Declared an illegal absentee, 2 September 1918, as from 24 November 1917; discharged from the AIF on account of desertion, 21 July 1920. Forfeited all eligibility for medals. |
