Military Medal

'On 4th October, East of YPRES, he displayed conspicuous gallantry in action. During the advance on enemy strong-point garrisoned by one officer and Fifty men, Private McCOY advanced alone round the corner of the strong-point and in spite of bombs thrown at him, rushed with bayonet at an Officer who was leading a party against him. The Officer turned and the remainder of the garrison surrendered. His prompt action thus overcome the resistance which probably would have led to losses on our side had it not been so vigorously opposed by Private McCOY.'
