Military Medal 'On 24th August, 1918, near BRAY, for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Knowing that all lines to Companies were broken he volunteered to look out for signals. He observed a message rocket fall short about 600 yards away on a ridge. He had to cross a valley through a thick barrage of heavies, shrapnel, and gas with which the enemy was continuously treating the valley, but managed to recover the rocket containing valuable information. During the whole of the day Private McCOY, who was a batman, worked indefatigably sorting ammunition, detonating bombs, and distributing rations, and showed a total disregard of personal safety.'
