Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the operations at PASSCHENDAELE RIDGE, East of YPRES, 1st to 5th November 1917. When one of our wounded men was captured, Private BELL under heavy enemy sniping and artillery fire went forward to rescue his comrade. He succeeded in driving off the enemy escort and practically carried the wounded man back to our lines. He displayed personal courage of a magnificent standard.'
