Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry in the attack on the tramline North of the German Trenches near BULLECOURT on 3rd May 1917. When his Officer and the whole of the remainder of his team had become casualties, he kept his gun in action and disabled a German Gun before his own was hit by rifle bullets. Later in the day he brought in a badly wounded man from NO MAN'S LAND.'
