Military Medal

'At MORLANCOURT on night 28/29th July 1918. For gallant leadership. During an attack delivered by his Company on the enemy positions he displayed conspicuous coolness and resource in the manner in which he handled his Section under trying circumstances when a heavy enemy barrage, a very dark night and a maze of enemy trenches made it a matter of extreme difficulty to maintain direction, combined to make his task hazardous and difficult. He, however, led his Section against a party of the enemy when they enveloped and killed and he finally established himself on his final objective which he consolidated. He proved of the utmost assistance to his Platoon Commander by the cool, skilful and gallant manner in which he handled his Command.'
