War Service: Taken on strength of the 15th Battalion ex 24th reinforcements 25 August 1917.

Wounded in action (shrapnel wounds to the head and neck) 26 September 1917. Admitted to hospital in England 3 October 1917, rejoined his unit 31 December 1917.

He was sent to hospital sick on 24 rejoined his unit on 5 January 1918, but was admitted to hospital suffering Trench Fever15 March 1918.

He was Absent Without Leave from midnight 18 April 1918 to 6 May 1918, and was court martialled on 29 May 1918. Sentenced to 46 days detention. This was commuted to forfeiture of 30 days pay. Total forfeited: 55 days pay.

He rejoined his unit on 13 July 1918.

Started his return journey to Australia on 5 January 1919, on the same ship as his father, the HT 'Kanowna'
