Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry during an enemy attack on 15th April 1917 on the village of NOREUIL. This N.C.O. on finding that his men were being sniped at from a Sunken Road in front of his position, crawled out from cover under very heavy fire sniping and enfilade enemy Machine gun fire got into a fold of the ground from where he was able to put the enemy snipers out of action, notwithstandidng the fact that in crawling out he had been shot at by a sniper and wounded in the hand. He then returned to his first position where he carried on, having saved any further loss of life there by his brave action. he was wounded later by shell fire. His absolute disregard of danger and his quick action in a critical situation was a fine example to the men.'
