War service: embarked from Australia, 23 November 1915. Admitted to 4th Auxiliary Hospital, Cairo, 2 December 1915 (mumps). Transferred to Zeitoun, 14 March 1916, and taken on strength of the Divisional Artillery Column. Embarked at Alexandria, 20 March 1916, to join the British Expeditionary Force; disembarked Marseilles, 27 March. Transferred to 22nd Howitzer Battery, 29 April 1916. Attached to the 104th Battery, 6 May 1916; transferred to 2nd Divisional Artillery Column, 27 May 1916. Private mustered as Driver, 2 September 1916. Proceeded on leave, 6 May 1917; rejoined unit, 19 May. Accidentally injured, 9 June 1917 (injury to left side, fractured pelvis - he was holding a mule for shoeing and the mule kicked him).
