Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry on the 23rd day of August, 1918, at HERLEVILLE WOOD. During the attack when his Coy was suffering heavy casualties, this N.C.O. collected a small party of men including a number of the Scottish Division on his right, and under a very heavy Machine Gun and rifle fire dashed forward and quickly cleared the wood from which the hostile fire was coming, capturing 20 prisoners and three Machine Guns and inflicting very heavy losses on the enemy. His prompt action clearly enabled the leading half of his Company to continue their advance. he showed great initiative and daring.'
