'During operations from 11th/16th September 1918 North West of ST. QUENTIN as a Company Runner, this man did splendid work. He repeatedly carried messages from his Company to Battalion Headquarters under heavy shell and Machine Gun fire, and on one occasion when the enemy had gained a footing in our trenches, he carried forward a supply of bombs which were urgently required. It was largely due to the good work of this man that communication was maintained with his Company and Battalion Headquarters.'
