Military Medal 'At 2 a.m. on 24th April, 1918 a fire broke out in the ammunition dump of the 5th Australian Divisional Ammunition Column at VECQUEMONT, caused by a hostile shell bursting in the vicinity. Corporal McGAHAN regardless of personal danger which was rendered greater by a large stock of lethal shell in the next bay, rushed to the scene of the fire and proceeded to isolate the burning ammunition. Although the stock was burning fiercely at the time and threatening at any moment to explode the bay of lethal shell, he succeeded in isolating the fire and putting it out. This N.C.O.'s personal and courageous action were entirely responsible for preventing a very serious outbreak of fire, thereby saving a large amount of ammunition and preventing a serious loss of life.'
