Embarked Brisbane on HMAT 'Aeneas', 29 June 1915.

Admitted to 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station, Gallipoli, 6 December 1915; transferred to 24th Casualty Clearing Station, Mudros East, 10 December 1915; to HS 'Aberdonian', 10 December 1915; taken on strength of 54th Divisional Base Depot, Mudros West, 7 January 1916; discharged to duty, 16 January 1916; disembarked Alexandria from 'Empress Britain', 21 January 1916, and marched into Overseas Base, Cairo; rejoined 25th Bn, Ismailia, 20 February 1916. Transferred to 2nd Pioneer Bn and taken on strength, Moascar, 13 March 1916.

Embarked Alexandria and proceeded to join the British Expeditionary Force, 19 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 26 April 1916.

Evacuated from the field, 1 August 1916; admitted to 1/S[outh]M[idlands] Casualty Clearing Station, 2 August 1916, and then to Ambulance Train '26'; transferred to 26th General Hospital, Etaples, 3 August 1916 (gun shot wound, arm); to No 6 Convalescent Depot, Etaples, 18 August 1916; discharged to 2nd Australian Infantry Base Depot, Etaples, 20 August 1916; taken on strength of 2nd Pioneer Bn, 30 August 1916; proceeded to England on leave, 3 January 1917.

Admitted to County Louth Military Hospital, Dundalk, 17 January 1917 (bronchitis); discharged from Military Hospital, 25 January 1917; no disciplinary action taken for absence between 13 January 1917 and 12 February 1917 as soldier was reported wounded at time of investigation.

Proceeded to France through Folkestone on SS 'Victoria', 15 February 1917; marched into 2nd Australian Divisional Base Depot, Etaples, under escort, 16 February 1917; moved out to field, 18 February 1917.

Found guilty, 24 May 1917, of neglect of duty; forfeits total of 2 days' pay. Appointed Lance Corporal, 2 January 1918; granted leave to Paris, 28 January 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 1 February 1918; proceeded to England on leave, 26 February 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 15 March 1918. Transferred to Australian Corps School and taken on strength, 20 June 1918; marched out to Australian Corps Reinforcements Camp, 1 August 1918. Transferred to 2nd Pioneer Bn and taken on strength, 3 August 1918.

Killed in action, 5 October 1918.
