War service: Egypt, Western Front Disembarked Suez, 11 December 1915. Found guilty, Ferry Post, 14 January 1916, of leaving parade without permission: awarded 8 hours' pack drill. Admitted to 15th Field Ambulance, 28 February 1916 (injured testicle). Transferred to 5th Division Artillery, 15 March 1916; mustered as Gunner, and posted to 59th Battery. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 17 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 24 June 1916. Transferred to 6th Field Artillery Brigade, 27 January 1917, and posted to 17th Battery. Mustered as Driver, 8 June 1917. Found guilty, 29 June 1917, of being absent from 6 am parade, 24 June 1917: awarded 24 hours' Field Punishment No 2. On leave to United Kingdom, 29 July 1917; rejoined unit from leave, 10 August 1917.
