Military Medal 'For great gallantry and devotion to duty in an attack upon an enemy strong point and trench at GUEUDECOURT on the morning of 21st February 1917. Though wounded in the head with a bayonet in a hand-to-hand encounter he managed to kill his opponent. Subsequently he remained at his post until the objective had been reached and the position in course of consolidation, when he was ordered away by the officer on the spot.'
