Distinguished Conduct Medal 'During the period 15 to 21 March 1918, he assisted in a number of reconnaissances necessary for the exact siting of the Makhadet Hajla Bridge, showing absolute disregard for enemy fire. During the night of the crossing 21-22 March, he set a fine example of coolness in rafting over the covering party, under close fire, and later his energy and skill during the bridging largely contributed to the success of the operation.'
