Proceeded overseas to France, 25 November 1916.

Wounded in action, 4 October 1917 (gun shot wound, left leg and thigh), and admitted to 11th Field Ambulance; transferred same day to 3rd Australian Casualty Clearing Station; to St John's Ambulance, Etaples, 5 October 1917; to England, 7 October 1917, and admitted to Norfolk War Hospital, 8 October 1917. Transferred to 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 26 October 1917; discharged to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 29 October 1917. Marched in to No 3 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 12 December 1917. Admitted to Brigade Hospital, Hurdcott, 26 March 1918 (wound, left leg); marched in to No 3 Command Depot from hospital, 4 May 1918.

Admitted to 2nd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Southall, 27 May 1918 (wound, leg); discharged to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 26 October 1918.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Nestor', 12 December 1918; disembarked Fremantle, 18 January 1919; discharged, Perth, 8 July 1919.
