Military Medal 'For gallant and devoted service during the operations near JONCOURT on 3rd October, 1918. On 3rd October, 1918 when the positions of the Companies on the left of our sector were very indefinite and when a share fight was raging in the trench system he worked forward and obtained communication with the two Company Commanders. To do this he had to move over the open on ground continually swept by machine gun fire for a distance of about 800 yards. He brought back most valuable information. In the afternoon he made a tour of the line, working between detached posts over the open country, regardless of machine guns which intermittently swept the area. His information was again most valuable.'
