Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This N.C.O. worked his platoon forward under very heavy machine gun fire, outflanking a post which was holding up the advance. He then personally headed a rush, capturing two machine guns and killing the crews. His courage and leadership inspired the men under him.'
