Military Medal 'During the operations south of PASSCHENDAELE on 26th October, 1917 he had charge of a portion of an important strong point at the most advanced point of the final objective. To reach the site the parties had to pass through very heavy barrage fire, and his party became disorganised and scattered. Under enormous difficulty he mustered them and by his splendid example encouraged the men and got them safely through. Quite early in the operations Sergeant McKEONE was wounded in the throat and face, but doggedly persisted in remaining until the whole work had been satisfactorily completed, setting an admirable example of devotion to duty, striking courage and utter disregard of personal risk. Just at the finish of the work the Engineer Officer in charge of the point was seriously wounded, and although Sergeant McKEONE was by this time suffering greatly from his own wounds, he persisted in forming one of the stretcher party to carry his officer a distance of three miles through almost impassible country under heavy fire.'
