Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in action East of YPRES on 4th October 1917. He established communication by wire between Battalion headquarters and the Front Line and frequently repaired the wire under very heavy fire. Although wounded, while sending in an important message by lamp, he completed his task before allowing himself to be removed by stretcher bearers. His example was an inspiration to many others.'
