'At Ypres, on the night of the 12th and 13th October, Corporal Maclachan was first bayonet man of his squad. He was first man in the enemy trenches, at once bayoneting a German who was bombing the party. He accounted for six inn all. His example and determination inspired the whole squad.'

In July 1995 Sally Pittman of Dubbo received a State prize in the National Trust's Back to the Future Heritage Week competition for her proposal to preserve the Byrock Cemetery 'because its demise was being accelerated through neglect and the ravages of stock'.('Sun-Herald', 9 July 1995)
