Military Medal 'He showed exceeding great gallantry, on 11th April 1917 at R.A.P. C.9.d. working to C. 14.d. in carrying many casualties to a place of safety. On one occasion there was concentrated enemy artillery fire on a "Tank" which passed close to the bearer relay station - Lance Corporal McLEAY under this fire and when the remainder of his squad were killed or wounded immediately carried off one of them on his back and continued to show a great example of courage and devotion to duty for many hours afterwards.'
