Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on 16 October, at St. Souplet. He led his gun crew through heavy artillery and machine gun fire, and emplaced his trench mortar so that he could support the attacking infantry who were held up. From this position he brought heavy fire to bear on the enemy strong posts, and was largely instrumental in insuring the success of the attack.'
